Default Linked accounts hurt. Wait, what?

Okay. So. I have looked over the threads.

The suggestions thread claims that people want more characters on their account. That I understand. I have both collector's editions, and one account.

Now, it is notorious for users of both Prophecies and Factions to have two separate accounts, so that they can use eight characters.

Not that I needed to, but I added another key in to my same account that I've always had since Prophecies. I hate sneaking from account to account. One account, one name, all characters, easy. (Although there's something to be said about the storage... but, I digress ...)

So, I had both collector's on one account. I didn't NEED to keep it all on the same account, mind you ... but it's a preference. Besides, I had heard rumors that you would get extra character slots for adding in Factions ... although I didn't realize I was limited to 6.

Now, I love to experience every class. It's almost a perfectionism thing. (Also why I merged the accounts.) Maybe I'm a little silly for having so many characters.

But why is it that when I joined my Prophecies account, and my Factions account, that I am down two character slots?

Furthermore, that also puts me down a storage box. I feel... sad.

Why is it that keeping one account only is less convenient? Or is it because I had the collector's edition, and wanted to keep them all together that I am having to give up extra slots and storage?

Am I alone on this, or do other people agree?

Also... I'm betting it's been mentioned before. But the server overload disabled the search feature. Also, there was no specific reference of linked accounts on the already suggested thread. So ...

yeah, you'll find there are still people saying "Use the search thread" even though it's been down ever since I joined... If it's overloaded, obviously people use it

Back to topic.

Nope, everyone who merges gets only 2 character slots. Difference between having 8 is that you can't travel to and fro with either account, and you also cannot do the added missions that are available to merged-only accounts.

Will there be additional character slots on my existing account, if I purchase Guild Wars Factions?

A Factions account offers 4 slots that provide access to the Cantha only, just as Guild Wars (the original Prophecies campaign) offers 4 slots for access to Tyria. If you choose to link your Prophecies and Factions accounts, you will have a total of 6 character slots, and all characters will be able to access to all areas of the map.

I find it that the linked account is convenient because you have access to campaign 1,2,and future chapters, you have special CE special effects like Divine Aura(DA) and backup dancers, use older characters to play new chapters, keep unlocks for PvP/GvG/HA, and items from many chapters of the game. the item skins...

Its because you can play both games with all your character, instead of just 1 game.

6 * 2 games
8 * 1 game

Either way, starting in summer you will be able to buy character slots, and they will have access to all content your account has access too.

Okay, so let's say we agree with their funky 6*2 + 100 carry the 3, blabla = 100% math...

How does storage factor into that equation??? Why do 6 characters get as much storage as 4?

Well, true. But having 8 characters instead of 6 is always pretty sweet in my eyes. That's the point. Why is it that if we LINK accounts, we only get six? ESPECIALLY if you have a collector's edition, which I would think would be the only reason to. Couldn't we get a gift or something? "Hey, thanks for not cheapening out and greedily hogging twice the storage and characters, linked users, here's some more storage and characters."

Or at least maybe some black dye or something. :P

What the heck does this have to do with the thread? I already know how many slots you get for joined and unjoined.

Exactly. 6 * 2 for 2 games, 8 * 1 for the single games.

Less storage, less characters. What gives?

Besides. I've got the collector's edition. (Only reason to link the accounts really.) Can't I get a little something something? Especially since so many people had late shipments and purchases. (I shake my fist at you, EBgames ... )

Hit the nail right on the head.

Bad math. If you add the factions key to your GW account then you get two new character slots which is 6 characters having access to both tyria and cantha. Yes those 6 have to share just 1 storage. If you install factions as a seperate game then you will have 4 stots for the first chapter and 4 slots for the second chapter but cantha characters don't have access to tyria and tyria characters don't have access to cantha. So for characters per storage it is 6 if combined and 4 if remained seperate. So putting it the way the rest of you are that would be 6*1 and 8*2. Plus the for one game and for two game is backwards. Factions is one game and Prophecies is one game. Put both together and you have two games. So it's 6*1 for both and 8*1 per individual.

The * thing doesn't work here either. * is multiplying where / is divide but also stands for "per". So it is 6/1 and 8/2 which reduces to 4/1. 6 'per' 1 storage and 4 'per' 1 storage.

All that nonsense aside it all boils down to what you prefer. If you keep the games seperate then you will have a total of 8 characters (4 on each account). That leaves you with more storage per character as well as more character over all but one set of four only has access to half the total content. If you combine accounts then you get 6 character slot in total instead of 8 and that 6 has to share one storage meaning less storage per character but that 6 characters have access to 100% of the content.

And if you PvP, you obviously want it all on the account you've unlocked things on.

having twice as much content and access to unique skills from both campaigns makes your 6 linked characters much more viable than 2 seperate sets of 4.

Each character comes with 20 inventory spaces, and an additional 20 in bags and belt, that is 40 more inventory spaces for each character you make. the storage isn't a store all box for endless storage, it is primarily a transfer box to allow your characters safe transfer of their good between eachother, instead of involving a second party (one which you would need to trust).

A player can easily store every kind of crafting material on one finished or unused acount, and all their dyes and runes on another, and all their weapons on another, with enough room on each to carry other weapons and essetial items. There is plenty of room between your characters to store hundreds of items, your storage is just a transfer space.

Unless your packing an excess of unneccessary items, or just don't know how to manage your inventories, there is plenty of space between all those characters. Players naturally only use 2 or 3 characters regularly, leaving half of your characters free to carry items, and as more expansions come out, with more classes, and more character slots, you will end up with more characters in disuse as you play through with new characters.

Furthermore, most players are only going to farm with their best characters, your PvP characters and finished characters arn't going to need inventory space to pick up a large number of items. There is plenty of room to clear out those 1 or 2 farmers who will actually need inventory space to pick things up.

This is a simple space management failure on players part, I know from working at a factory that your Semi capacity is part of your storage space, and can be used to retain storage even if your ware houses are full. In this case each character has doulbe the capacity of your storage, failing to recognize your 40 additional spaces per character made available to store items and sweating your 20 storage spaces is simply poor perception and space management. Each character added to your account is double the storing capacity of your storage, use it.

In light of the added content available to 6 characters, rather than simple packing space available to two seperate sets of 4 characters, I think it is a favorable trade. Each character has ample storage on them, and between several unused characters there is plenty of room to store hundreds of items. Stop complaining about your failures in storage management.

This has been discussed a hundred and fifteen million times. We do not need another thread on this.

Also if you read your post, you haven't suggested anything. This happens to be the suggestion forum. No suggestion = no thread.

Feel free to repost your post into one of the many same threads on this.

But next time when you have questions, use the questions and answers forum, not the suggestion forum.
